Life Beyond the Resume
Whether I’m coordinating esports tournaments, editing highlight reels, or spending time with my dog, I find inspiration in the little things that exist outside of work. These are the everyday moments that keep me grounded, curious, and connected — and they shape how I show up in everything I do.
Competitive Esports

As a longtime gamer and content creator, I’ve been actively involved in both the competitive and creative sides of gaming. I competed in semi-professional tournaments as a player and coach — including a top-10 finish with Team IKUN in the 2019 Rainbow Six Siege China Regional and a 12th-place finish with SMD in the 2018 Overwatch Open Division North America. The endless scrims and practice hours shaped my leadership and my spontaneous communciation style. Outside of competition, I’ve built a small but engaged community by streaming FPS games on Twitch and sharing highlight content on Bilibili, where my videos have earned over 10,000 views. I have come to learn that the best way to engage viewers is through crafted stories. Gaming has shaped my leadership and storytelling — all of which I bring into my academic research and professional projects. Here is the only picture I could find that shows my rank.
Tabletop Games

I’m also an avid tabletop gamer with a deep love for narrative-driven genres like Call of Cthulhu, Dungeons & Dragons, and Murder Mystery games. I’ve been a Dungeon Master for over three years, and take pride in developing new worlds, storylines, and characters from scratch — and improvising when my players inevitably go off-script. I’ve explored nearly every Lovecraftian-inspired title across Steam and board game platforms. I have also been hosting Muder Mystery games and opened up my own murder mystery store with a friend where i was in charge of marketing/operation/
and hosting actual games. These games are where I exercise my creativity, practice improvisation, and explore the psychology of play — all skills that echo into my research interests and content creation work. This is me looking over my player's card information for a DND quest.
Pumpkin

I’ve always loved animals and dreamed of having a pet growing up, but it wasn’t until a year ago that I got a dog of my own. She is Pumpkin, a lovely Japanese Akita! This journey has been transformative — not just in learning how to care for another life, but in becoming a more patient, grounded, and responsible person. Dogs are like mirrors; they reflect the energy, emotions, and habits we bring into their lives. Training my dog to be happy and social has, in many ways, trained me too. I still can’t believe that the same dog who once hesitated to even step on grass now bounds joyfully through dog parks like she owns them. Through love, structure, and consistency, I’ve found myself growing alongside my dog — both of us learning, adapting, and becoming better together. This is a picture of Pumpkin when she's about to go to her favourite place - her Vet's Clinic.
Other things I enjoy
I’ve also enjoyed many other things. Fishing with friends gives me an exhilarating feeling — it’s like a battle of wits with nature, learning the habits of different species, picking the right bait, and waiting for that perfect moment. Good food means the world to me, so I cook and bake often. I especially love seeing the smile of satisfaction on people’s faces when they take that first bite — it’s one of the most rewarding feelings. When I’m alone, I often spend time reading. Lately, I’ve been diving into An International Law Perspective on Harry Potter — a rather nerdy pick, but exactly the kind of deep-dive that fascinates me. I love books that reframe familiar stories through unexpected lenses, especially when they blend pop culture with academic curiosity.
